Kalaru Lakeside Retreat “The Outlook” Renovation

The concept was to alter an existing rudimentary brick and tile cabin into a retreat that responds to the sensitive foreshore location.

The new dwelling connects with the lake environment using long openings that focus on the horizontal scape between land and water.

Timber is used extensively – oyster-covered stakes and the old timbers from the demolished fishing shack link the historical users of the site with the current owners.

The blade wall installation anchors the house at ground level whilst the upper level red iron bark clad box appears to float in the landscape.
