Kalaru Bushfire-Resistant Colourbond House Renovation

This bushfire-prone site in Kalaru required clever design solutions to fulfil the brief, whilst still complying with the BAL certification requirements. An existing studio-sized residence became two bedrooms, while a large scale addition provided the remainder of a generous 3 bedroom home with open plan kitchen, living and dining.

Sustainable features included polished concrete floors in the main living areas, with expanses of glass to draw in the northern winter sun – heating the concrete slab and providing excellent thermal storage. Double glazing throughout, high louvres to let out heat, and sufficient eave overhangs ensure the residence stays cool in summer.
