Bega Energy Efficient Affordable First Home

This modest first home is packed full of clever features and sustainable design considerations.

The client brief was to feel very open plan, and include two bedrooms plus a study/third bedroom. There is a separate toilet in the laundry, and one main bathroom which features a separate toilet and washbasin area – also connected to the main bedroom. This allows the owner to close off the toilet and washbasin from the main bathroom when guests stay, which means guest utilise the laundry toilet instead.

The home is north facing, with three sets of glass sliding doors leading to a concrete patio. High louvres let the heat escape in summer, and a large roof overhang prevents the summer sun entering, whilst allowing the Winter sun to flood in and warm the space.

The final design consideration was a removable pantry, which allows for future extension of the house if required.
